Clive VanderBurgh is Professor Emeritus with the RTA School of Media at Ryerson University in Toronto.
At Ryerson, he was the Director of the Graduate Program in Media Production and Interim Chair of the School of Radio and Television Arts. As a professor, he taught television production with a special interest in children’s TV and conducted TV research about children’s viewing habits.
Before coming to Ryerson, Clive was an Executive Producer of Development and a Producer/Director at TV Ontario. He was responsible for creating, producing and directing children’s series including Today’s Special, Math Patrol, MathMakers, Cucumber, McCabe Mysteries and Roots and Wings. As a freelancer, Clive also produced, directed and wrote many segments for CBC Sesame Street.
In addition to his latest children’s CD, Hair Between His Toes, Clive has written, produced and recorded hundreds of children’s songs that have been featured on television shows. His previous children’s album production, with the Today’s Special cast, was a Juno finalist. As well, he has written and recorded six adult alternative music CD’s and co-written two theatrical musicals. “The Last Christmas Turkey”, co-written with Dan Needles, premiered at Theatre Orangeville.
If you see Clive on the street and you want to start up a conversation, here are some opening ice-breaker topics. Ask him about:
Dancing on the Miss Teen Canada TV special in 1969
How many times people have heard his Today’s Special theme song
When he sat on the Queen’s throne
It would be lovely if you pretend you are interested and haven’t heard these stories before.
